2006 in one or two paragraphs and some pictures

what a good year. Graduated, turned in a rewrite today (hopehopewishwish it's good enough to get the A). Christmas was just awesome. There was lots of presents, lots of food, lots of family, lots of memories to last till next year. Who knows what next year will bring, where I will be and who will be with me? It's honestly the biggest mystery I've puzzled yet, but I have recently figured out at least one or two of the pieces.
We're leaving for Daniel's parent's tomorrow, I'm excited to see them, their new place and a new ocean (for me it's new).

Scrooge Awards

Daniel Gross of Slate magazine wrote recently about a “The Corporate Scrooge Contest, ResultsAmerica's worst office Christmas parties, gifts, and bonuses”. Pretty funny stuff.
The winner of “the thought doesn’t count” category
“A reader reported that his wife, a dental assistant, received a $30 certificate to the fancy clothing store owned by the dentist's wife, in which no item for sale was close to that price.”

It's a little early, but

from
ads of the world.com

The premie ward of Edith Cavell hospital sends Christmas cards to ex-patients and other departments. This year, the card arrived in mid October and said on the inside

“It’s a little premature, but marry Christmas”

(I thought Eleni would like it)

Right side up, or right side down?

I think this is a neat idea for a Christmas tree, especially for people who live in a small area (our house is huge this year, but odds are it will be quite small when we move away from Nannie and PawPaw’s rentals). Apparently it evokes a 12th century tradition of hanging a tree from the ceiling at Christmas, and was “originally designed for specialty stores to display delicate ornaments using a minimum of floor space. . . the inverted shape makes it easier to see ornaments, which hang away from the dense needles and do not get lost in the foliage”.
Hammacher Schlemmer offers them pre-lit and promises they are very “life like”. (Maybe lifelike for a stalactites, but not a tree.) Still, I think it is a practical design and just as visually appealing as the typically placed Christmas tree. I wonder if it really would be easier to hang ornaments.

go elf yourself.

Office Max put up this site for turning yourself into an elf. And it’s not filled with advertisements, surprisingly enough. I put this highly, highly, embarrassing screen shot of the two minute dance up for example and for your enjoyment (so you better be nice in your commenting).

Ian’s Shoelace site

My photo, my shoes
strait (fashion) lacing on the left
Often referred to as "Bar Lacing" or "Lydiard Lacing"
and Lattice lacing on the right
I love Ian’s Shoelace Site. Just love it. My grandparents made fun of me for looking up how to ties my shoes, but I maintain it is a good thing to rethink and relearn these “basic” things we take for granted. Actually it’s just fun.
Tips on everything from lacing deck shoes to lacing for bicyclists, how to tie the perfect bow, galleries of funky laces, and random trivia like “The tips of shoelaces are called aglets”.

Evil Eye For Daniel

Hmm… Do you all want to see some of my latest crafts? Really? OK.

I made this evil eye mosaic for Daniel’s birthday (and yes, Josh, that is an amber-bach pupil).

I hate Drake

And the sign says

I’m a little too proud of that sign I generated using Add Letters - they have about a million more of them, from hiking trails to Bart Simpson’s chalkboard.

Spontaneity and functionality? Nah.

The random lift button, designed by Chris speed is installed in two elevators in Portland Square at the University of Plymouth, UK. Pressing the random lift button in the elevator puts one “directly in the centre of a non-linear moment, its outcomes uncertain and unpredictable. A sensation that would be both rewarding and entropic”. Sounds cool. A little odd, but if I saw one, I’d press it. I like how they never describe how it actually works in the article. Presumably, it really is a random button that just randomly takes you to different floors. But isn’t that kind of like being trapped on an elevator?

Link
This is from Grace, who loves to send me clips to inappropriate and shocking film clips. This one, is surprisingly child friendly. Besides, what's more fun than a puppet music video? Alright, bad question. I liked it. almost enough to watch the whole thing before I went off in search of more links...
